Winter Wrap-up

Hampers

Save The World Club has sent 121 hampers this winter to people in need, including residents of local almshouses, with the final 15 going to Surrey Stands With Ukraine after meeting our goal!

They were filled with a wide variety of dried and long-life food, confectionery and other treats as well as Christmas crackers and soft toys for those who had children.

All the recipients were deeply thankful, as the hampers make such a difference to people who are having a hard time over the festive period.

Christmas Grotto

We would like to thank everyone who came to our perennial Santa's Grotto - it surpassed last year's event, with even more boys and girls coming to give their Christmas wishes ahead of the big day.

With 58 RSVPs this year, as well as those who attended without giving prior notice, Santa and his elves were very busy!

STWC offered every visitor a free bauble or decoration to add to their tree, with the hope that people think of us the following year when they get their Yuletide ornaments out again.

Moreover, many sustainably-sourced gifts were bought on the day from our fantastic pre-loved goods warehouse, helping people save the pennies and save the environment at the

Volunteers' Christmas Dinner

Everyone had a wonderful time at our Xmas get-together for all our current volunteers - to thank them for their ongoing support - with a total of 63 helpers attending.

We held a dinner event with plentiful food and music from a local guest band - Ghost Dog - who played two full sets. It was an opportunity for those volunteering in different areas, who would not usually meet, to come together and celebrate.

While there, we asked everyone for feedback on the construction of our upcoming Community Cafe and the sorts of things they’d like to see happen there (watch this space for more).

One volunteer said: “It was so lovely, the food, music and company. So nice to meet new people too.“

Finally, a big "thank you" to Olivia (our Kitchen Co-ordinator) and volunteer Gabby, for their Herculean efforts in cooking for so many people.

On the subject of cooking, if you have a special event coming up (for over 25 people) and are looking for catering that’s more sustainable, check out our fantastic Kingston Intercultural Catering Service (KICS). We use surplus foodstuffs to supplement the service and all profit made is reinvested into other initiatives to help local people.
