April brought a wave of excitement, with engaging events that attracted more than 100 visitors throughout the month, coming together to connect, learn, and discover new experiences.
Eid al-Fitr Party
We came together on April 4th to mark the end of Ramadan with a festive Eid celebration! The event featured a vibrant spread of traditional dishes from across the Muslim world, reflecting the rich cultural diversity of Kingston.
Guests brought their own halal dishes to share, with ingredients clearly listed. In the spirit of the occasion, the celebration was alcohol-free—focused entirely on good food, great company, and meaningful connection. "It was good to understand reducing consumption in Ramadan and celebrating the joy of good food together at Eid", shared an event attendee.
Hummus & Falafel Party
On April 12th, we gathered for a deliciously hands-on experience learning how to make falafel and hummus from scratch. The session was led by Menachen, a professional chef and owner of a local vegan restaurant, who shared his tips, techniques, and passion for plant-based cooking. Head Chef Menachen spent days soaking, grinding and preparing the mixtures.
This was served with fresh Baba Ganoush, Tahini and Chilli sauces.
Participants helped in frying fresh falafel. "The food was so fresh. It was great to learn about the ingredients and how they are used", said an event guest.
It was a flavourful journey into Middle Eastern cuisine—with plenty of tastings, of course!
St. George's Day
On Saturday, 26th April, we came together to celebrate St. George’s Day—a joyful tribute to English heritage and traditions. The event was filled with the sounds of classic English music, entertaining videos, and a warm sense of community spirit.
Guests had the chance to immerse themselves in English culture, from learning how to make beloved dishes like Apple Crumble and Trifle to enjoying games and food brought by attendees. We shared home made scones with strawberry jam and clotted cream; homemade Cottage Pie; macaroni cheese; a gorgeous strawberry trifle; and sugar free bread cake. It was a wonderful opportunity to share stories, flavours, and fun in the spirit of tradition.
Terry, a local English resident in his late 80’s said, "The trifle tasted just like my grandmother used to make it. I especially loved watching information on the Anglo Saxons and celebrating the 1,100 year history of Kingston in 2025".
We look forward to celebrating with you again next year—maybe with even more recipes and games to explore!
Thank you to everyone who joined us!
